Settings configured so that my site is seen

I was wondering if there are settings that can be configured to help my site rank higher in Google listings. I keep getting emails saying that some of my settings are off, but I can't figure out what those would be.

I was wondering if there are settings that can be configured to help my homestead plus website rank higher in Google listings. I keep getting emails saying that some of my settings are off, but I can't figure out what those would be.

Yes, there are several foundational settings you can configure within Homestead Sitebuilder Plus to improve your site's Google rankings.
Those automated emails you are receiving are highly likely phishing scams or unsolicited sales pitches from third-party marketing agencies trying to scare you into buying SEO services. Homestead does not send automated alerts stating your search settings are "off." However, to ensure your website is actually fully optimized and readable by Google, you should verify the following essential configurations inside your Homestead dashboard:
1. Enable HTTPS Security (SSL)
Google explicitly penalizes unsecure websites and ranks secure sites higher. If your website URL begins with http:// instead of https://, your security settings are technically incomplete. [1]
  • The Fix: If you are using Homestead Sitebuilder Plus, you need to route your custom domain through a free Cloudflare account to generate an SSL certificate, and point your DNS nameservers accordingly within your Homestead Advanced Domain Settings. [1]
2. Update Your Meta Tags and Page Titles
Google relies on meta settings to understand what your website is about. If these are left blank or contain placeholder text, your site will not rank well.
  • The Fix: Open your site inside the Sitebuilder Plus editor. Go to your page properties and fill out the Page Title (keep it under 75 characters) and Page Description using relevant keywords that describe your business. [1]
3. Replace Internal Project Name Placeholders
When you first create an instance or project inside the Homestead Websites Manager, the system requires a unique internal "Site Name". Users often type a random string of characters (like a keyboard mash) to skip this step. This can accidentally become your default staging subdomain (e.g., randomcharacters.homesteadcloud.com). [1]
  • The Fix: Ensure your custom domain is cleanly mapped as the primary pointer so Google indexes your official domain name instead of a placeholder Homestead staging URL. [1, 2]
4. Connect to Google Search Console
If Google cannot discover your pages, your settings won't matter. You need to explicitly tell Google your site exists.
  • The Fix: Create a free account on Google Search Console. Obtain the HTML verification tag provided by Google, and paste it into the header/metadata section of your Homestead site settings to formally submit your site for indexing.
