IMAP email setup for Outlook on Mac - Homestead Fail

Trying to set up IMAP for Outlook on Mac. Confirmed all the settings with tech support. Keep getting error message:

"Unable to sign in. Try again or create an app password for this account."

Support says they cannot create an app password or help further and to contact Microsoft. Support sent a link to Microsoft help website for Windows that was completely irrelevant.
