I want to move my Domain name and DNS to Godaddy but want to leave hosting alone on homestead for now.

If I transfer the domain to Godaddy and recreate the DNS there like it is currently at homestead will my site continue to function on homestead?

TRANSFER DOMAIN:
If you contact your domain registrar, they should be able to get the domain ready for transfer and send you an authorization code. Then, you add the domain to your Homestead account under "Use a Domain I Already Own" in the Domains tab and input the Authorization Code. The process takes 5-7 days to complete.

I know how to transfer the domain from homestead. My question is what happens to the hosting account when I do that. Does it remain in place or will it go away?

If your domain name is registered with homestead, you may want to keep it there. They have reasonable rates. If you want to change your website hosting company, you can do that too.
