Google Workspace

We wish to set up a Google Workspace but we are a non-profit, so we can get it for free from Google. Q: How do we incorporate our Google Workspace into our website without purchasing from Homestead?

Per Google:

Without Homestead, you can still integrate Google Workspace features into your website through various methods depending on what you want to achieve and your technical proficiency:
1. Using Google Sites
  • Google Sites is a free website builder that comes with Google Workspace. It allows you to embed content from various Workspace apps like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms directly onto your pages.
  • Google Sites is ideal for creating basic websites, intranets, or project sites, especially if you prioritize easy collaboration and want to leverage your existing Google Workspace environment.
2. Embedding specific Google Workspace tools
  • Many Google Workspace tools offer embed codes that can be pasted directly into the HTML of any website, regardless of the platform used to build it. For example, to embed a Google Calendar, follow these steps:
    1. Open Google Calendar on your computer.
    2. Click on the settings icon (gear) in the top right corner and choose "Settings".
    3. Select the calendar you wish to embed from the list on the left.
    4. In the "Integrate calendar" section, copy the iframe code provided.
    5. You can customize the calendar's appearance before copying the HTML code by clicking on the "Customize" button.
    6. Paste the code into your website's HTML where you want the calendar to appear.
  • Similarly, you can embed Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms by accessing the "Publish to web" or "Send" options within each application and selecting the "Embed" or "<>" icon to obtain the embed code.
3. Utilizing website builders with Google Workspace integrations
  • Several popular website builders offer integrations or easy embedding options for Google Workspace features, including:
    • WordPress: WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites can easily embed Google Docs, Calendars, Forms, etc..
    • Squarespace: Squarespace acts as a Google Workspace reseller, simplifying the process of connecting your domain and email.
    • Wix: Wix allows embedding Google Calendar, Docs, and other elements into your site design.
  • You can research other website builders like Webflow, Weebly, or Constant Contact to see if they offer specific features or plugins that suit your needs.
Key considerations
  • Custom domains: While Google Sites can be used with a custom domain, you'll need to configure your DNS settings with your domain registrar. Other website builders have their own domain connection processes.
  • Security: Ensure that when embedding or linking to Google Workspace content, the sharing settings within each application are set appropriately to control who can view or interact with the content.
  • Design and customization: Google Sites offers pre-made templates and customization options, but other website builders might provide more design flexibility.
  • Complexity: The best method depends on your website's complexity and your technical skills. Embedding specific tools is straightforward for individual elements, while a website builder might be preferable for a more comprehensive site
