Unable to Add Google Workspace Users or Upgrade Storage – Ongoing “Unexpected Server Error”

We use Homestead Website Builder not only for our website, but also because Homestead is our Google Workspace reseller. All of our company Gmail accounts and Google Drive storage are managed through Homestead.

About two months ago, we hired two new employees and attempted to add new Google Workspace email accounts through the Homestead dashboard, as we have done successfully in the past. Each time, we received the same error message:

“Google Workspace Professional Email
We are sorry, there was an unexpected server error. Please check back again later.”

At the time, we contacted Homestead support. They were unsure of the cause and opened a support ticket. Since then, I have followed up multiple times, but the issue has not been resolved. I still cannot add email accounts through the Homestead portal and continue to receive the same error.

More recently, we began receiving notifications from Google that our Google Workspace storage is full and that we need to contact our reseller to upgrade storage. When attempting to upgrade storage through Homestead, I encounter the exact same server error as above.

I have called support again, and once more a ticket was opened, but there is still no resolution or explanation.

This is now actively impacting our small business:

  • We cannot create email accounts for new employees

  • We cannot upgrade Google Workspace storage

  • We are receiving storage limit warnings with no way to resolve them

My questions for the community:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this ongoing “unexpected server error” when managing Google Workspace through Homestead?

  2. Is there a known issue with Homestead’s Google Workspace provisioning system?

  3. Is there a way to escalate this or temporarily manage Google Workspace directly while this is unresolved?

  4. Has anyone successfully migrated away from Homestead as the reseller while keeping existing accounts intact?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. We’ve been stuck for months and urgently need a path forward.

Thank you.

I Googled for an answer to this question: Unable to Add Google Workspace Users or Upgrade Storage.

This is the result:

"Unable to add Google Workspace users or upgrade storage usually stems from license limits, payment failures, or legacy account restrictions. To fix this, administrators should purchase more licenses in the Admin console (Billing), upgrade to a higher Google Workspace edition for more pooled storage, or check for payment method errors.
Troubleshooting User Addition
  • Check Licenses: You cannot add users if you have used all your purchased licenses. Go to Admin console > Billing > License settings to check.
  • Purchase Licenses: If you've reached your limit, you must purchase additional user licenses.
  • Limit Check: Business Starter, Standard, and Plus plans have a maximum of 300 users. If you exceed this, you may need an Enterprise plan.
  • Verify Admin Status: Only administrators can manage users.
Troubleshooting Storage Upgrades
  • Remove Old Subscriptions: Individual storage add-ons from legacy G Suite are no longer supported. You must upgrade to a Google Workspace Business plan (Standard or Plus) to increase pooled storage.
  • Check Payment Method: Verify your billing method is up to date in the Admin console.
  • Empty Trash/Storage: Ensure users have emptied their Drive, Gmail, and Photos trash to free up space.
Key Considerations
  • Pooled Storage: Remember that storage is pooled across the organization, not per user.
  • Contact Support: If you cannot resolve the issue through the console, contact Google Workspace support directly."

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post — I really appreciate it.

To clarify, when I access Google Workspace, it redirects me to our reseller, Homestead (see attachment). From there, I sign in to my Homestead account and attempt to upgrade or add additional company email accounts. However, I consistently receive the same error message that I previously shared.

Each time I contact Homestead support, they open a support ticket. Then I never receive any follow up, which forces me to repeatedly reach back out. Despite multiple attempts, they are unable to answer the question or fix the problem. They do not even reply to my emails.

This has been ongoing since November, starting with the original issue. Payment is not a factor — we’ve been with Homestead for years, our account is on autopay, and there have never been any late or failed payments.

At this point, the problem appears to be entirely on Homestead’s side. I’m stuck in a loop of error messages, tickets, and no resolution, which is why I’m trying to understand what options I may have at this point.
