Video thumbnails no longer display after publishing in website builder

I recently noticed that our YouTube video thumbnails, which are embedded in Website Builder, no longer display in our published site.  They are visible in the editor but will not display in several browsers.  I have tried deleting them in the editor and re-adding them, but that does not solve the problem.  Also, they are displayed correctly on our YouTube account.  The problem is affecting all of our videos on the site.  Some were published several years ago, and some were published as recently as two months ago.

Here is an image of one of the videos on your YouTube Account.

This is what it looks like in Website Builder's editor.

This is what it looks like in a browser after being published.

Keep in mind that this just started happening.  It has worked fine for years.

I have tried the following to solve the problem, to no avail.

  1. Removed, then re-added the video in the editor
  2. Tested it on several browsers, including an Android mobile.
  3. I've changed the thumbnail in YouTube
    1. The change will appear in the Website Builder editor, but the thumbnail will not display in the published site, although the video will work fine.

Hi David:  See my post from over 10 hours ago - still no response from Homestead! : (

We have a similar problem regarding stock photographs and background images Homestead allows customer to freely use that were used on two of our websites which have all suddenly disappeared from our published sites, but still appear in the Homestead Website Builder editor when I log into our account.  Note that all our personally owned photographs still appear on our published sites and it is only the stock photographs and backgrounds Homestead offers that have disappeared.  One of our customers brought this to our attention, so it is already having a negative impact.  Very frustrating!

Hi Jeff, That sounds like a similar problem; however, our photos, both stock and those supplied by us, are working fine.  I spoke with someone on Homestead's help desk support, but they were not able to help.  Hopefully, they monitor these posts and will respond to the details provided.

Hi David:  As of 11:50 pm EST 3/27/25, the free stock photographs are back on both our published websites.  Curious to know if your Youtube videos are appearing again on your site?  I hope they are.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for letting me know.  I just checked, and our video thumbnails are back up and working as they should be!!  I read somewhere that they've had Cloudflare issues occasionally, so maybe the two are related.  Anyway, all is good here.

Hi David:  Happy to hear your video thumbnails are back up! : )

I will say that while I am very happy our stock photographs are back as well, I am troubled by the fact that I never heard from a Homestead representative about what was going on, as well as learning that Homestead's help desk support was unable to help solve your problem.

I have stayed with Homestead for years because of the competitive pricing, especially for hosting multiple websites, but IMHO they need to step up there response to handling technical problems like you and I just experienced.

For now, I am just happy both the problems with my websites and your website have somehow been resolved.

All the best!
