Can I clone a website?

Hello,

I have a website, and I want to make a new one that is mostly the same.  Do I have to go through the effort of recreating the work I already did, or can I copy an entire website, or pieces of it?

Thank you,

Robert

Sadly you cannot clone a SiteBuilder site to Website Builder.  You CAN get a download of your files from SiteBuilder (you have to ask them for it now at 800-710-1998) but none of the pages are downloadable.  I have done this dozens of times now (for other people and myself) and the easiest way I found to re-create a site is to open the site in a separate window (without signing in) and then I copy  and paste the text from each page into a Word document identifying the page/sections (and you can just drag/copy photos into that document too. Then you just have to re-paste them into your new template.  I actually find dragging photos into a separate FOLDER is easier to navigate and it gives me a chance to rename them into something that makes sense.  You are going to have a bit of a learning curve with the new tools, but they ARE better.  Best advice I can give you is to be sure to use the "CONTAINER" element in the new tools (on the left) because that is how you group text, photos, etc into each section & page and will save you a lot of time in the end as the grouping and sections are important as it is also building your mobile site and the software has a tendency to plop things in the wrong spot if you aren't properly using the sections and containers.  The mobile site can be edited separately, but only up to a point. (i.e., you can't change the text in mobile editor)  When you use a container, it will likely be a colored box.  That is so you can SEE it.  Once you get everything in the box (it will say "attach to box" when you move something into it) then you can make the container transparent under the OTHER tool box on the right that appears when you click on MORE>Advanced>Style.  If you get stuck, and it is after Christmas, you can get in touch and I can try to walk you through some things.  My email is picturethismultimedia@comast.net

Thank you Lynn for your detailed reply.  That is good to know about SiteBuilder files because I have several sites created in SiteBuilder.  The information about containers is also useful.

But my question was slightly different.  I have a website made in WebsiteBuilder, and I want to create a nearly identical website in WebsiteBuilder.  Is there a quick an easy way to duplicate the site, or will I still have to repeat a lot of the work?

Thank you,
Robert

While I do not know for sure if they can duplicate your Website Builder, their "customer service" people don't seem to know a whole lot about how the builder WORKS. You would definitely need them to do that I think.  They may be able to put it in your current account, or at least give you a trial site.  I have questioned as to why, if I know more than they do, they even bother answering the phone.  Anyway, maybe Thursday, give them a call and ask. Or perhaps someone in the community here knows.   I know you can do it in WIX and GoDaddy, so why shouldn't they be able to do that for you?  Do let me know if you are successful, because it would be good to know for sure.

Hello,

Unfortunately, WebsiteBuilder sites cannot be cloned like that. The site would manually need to be copied.
