Are you using Sitebuilder Plus or Websitebuilder?
To fix the "Oops! Something went wrong" error on your Homestead website, the easiest and completely free workaround is to replace your broken Google Maps element with a standard Google Maps Embed code.
Homestead's built-in, older map elements use a backend script that requires a personal Google Maps API key to function. Because you likely do not have an active billing account linked to Google Cloud, the old element broke. Replacing it with a direct embed ignores the API key requirement entirely. [1, 2]
How to Fix Your Map on Homestead
  1. Delete the old map: Log into your Homestead Website Builder, open your site editor, select the broken map component on your page, and press Delete.
  2. Get a new embed code from Google Maps:
    • Go to the public Google Maps website.
    • Search for your address or business name.
    • Click the Share button on the left panel, then choose the Embed a map tab.
    • Click Copy HTML. [1]
  3. Paste the code into Homestead:
    • In your Homestead site builder menu, look for the option to add an HTML element (usually found under Elements > Advanced > HTML / Code).
    • Drag the new HTML box onto your page where you want the map to sit.
    • Right-click or double-click the box, open its properties, and paste the copied HTML code inside.
    • Adjust the width and height properties in the text box (or drag the edges of the box) so it fits perfectly on your screen.
  4. Publish your site: Save your changes and hit Publish. Your new map will load smoothly without errors.
